Artist's Comments

- Tanya Allen

Charcoal, pencil, q-tips and toliet paper

I am going through an artist overload, so much so that I can barely keep track of all my thoughts and ideas. So, in order to try to find my focus, I decided to do this portrait. This portait is significant to me because almost a year ago, I drew this same picture and it was one of my very first deviations. At that time, I had not drawn for almost 10 years. So, this portait is a way for me to see how I have improved, where I am at now and what areas I still need to improve to be able move forward.

Here is the link to the first picture. [link]

Here is the reference: [link] I obviously still have a lot to improve. I am pretty happy with the progress that I have made, but I am determined to work harder.

Not to be too offensive, but that original isn't very easy on the eyes. :XD: But its still feasible considering the time in between. Sei likes this one much more. Tanya looks so cute and cuddly. The eyes came out nicely, it could belong on a child's face because of its 'Ooooo, really?' factor.

Hahahaha! I know what you mean about that first picture. I was almost too embarrassed to post it. I have been trying to get my friend Monica to draw and she finally drew a picture that was actually pretty good for her first time. She of course did not think that it was good, so I pulled out that first portrait to show how she can improve with a little practice and needless to say, she felt a little more confident about her own picture after viewing mine. I still did not do the picture justice, but at least now it does not look like some fourth grader drew it. I think now I may be at junior high level. Hehehe!

:wow: Oh my gosh, after seeing the first pic and then looking at this version, I see you've really improved a great deal! You can see it especially in the eyes and hair. Now just think of how good you'll be at this time next year? ^^ You should be very proud!

Thanks! That first picture is so embarrassing, but I remember being so proud of it when I drew it. In about a year (it is actually a year in May) I will probably draw this picture again to see what I still need to work on.

You've improved like WHOA! I love the peaceful atmosphere in this picture!
Her eyes and hair look so nice too!

Life is laughing at me.

It looks so amazing realistic, and that much improvement in just one year makes me a bit jealous :aww:

with morning mist
brings an end to the eternal night now
in the widening dawn of this Garden.
